Delhi coaches to get a pay cut after the team fails to reach Ranji Trophy finals
It was also reported that a large sum of the grant was given to the lawyers, who fought cases for the association at various junctures.
Coaches of the Delhi State Ranji Trophy cricket team are all set to get a pay cut, as the team underperformed this season and was not able to make it to the finals of the tournament. And, adding to the misery of the coaches is also the fact that they are yet to receive their dues, and still, there is no clarity on the status of their payments which has been caused due to unknown reasons.
Delhi coaching staff had signed performance-based contracts, which means that their salaries would be decided upon the fact that till what stage did the team progress to, while the tournament was underway. Delhi in the 2019-20 season was placed on the 8th position in the points table for the Elite A & B Groups and this is the reason that the coaches will be getting a deduction in their salaries.
Coaches like, Bhaskar Pillay and Rajkumar Sharma, who has coached the current Indian captain Virat Kohli during his early days, will be getting reduced payments from the board. Pillay, who was supposed to get Rs. 30 lakh was cleared to get only Rs. 24 lakh and Rajkumar Sharma’s payment was reduced to Rs. 20 lakh from Rs. 25 lakh.
Match fees of players were directly credited to their accounts
But, their financials have taken another hit, as their payments are yet to be cleared. Out of the Rs. 11 crore grant that the Delhi and District Cricket Association got from the BCCI, Rs. 4.5 crore was to be given to the coaches as their payments, but the things are still not clear that at which level, the amount of clearance is stuck.
“The BCCI has paid us our grant. Rs 11 crore is there in DDCA coffers. I don’t know why none of the coaches, physios, masseurs have been paid. COVID-19 lockdown has just started but these payments have been pending for a long time,” DDCA joint secretary, Rajan Manchanda, was quoted saying on the matter by India Today.
It was also reported that a large sum of the grant was given to the lawyers, who fought cases for the association at various junctures. The players were lucky enough to escape from the misery, as their match fees are credited directly to their accounts by the BCCI.
