Dinesh Karthik should play at 4 as long as he is performing: Sourav Ganguly

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly looked very pleased with the way the Indian team bounced back in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand. After having lost the first ODI at Mumbai, the men in blue registered a clinical win at Pune to level the series. One of the architects of India’s win was comeback veteran Dinesh Karthik.

Team India has been trying different players at the number four position in the recent times. Now that Karthik has responded well, it seems the team has found a good player for the key position. Sourav Ganguly, as per the quotes in India Today, quoted that the chase was not a great one and hence it would not be the right parameter to judge Karthik. However, he should be allowed to play at that position.

“He played well to be honest, although there was not much pressure when you’re chasing that kind of a total. He will be tested but he should play as long as he is performing. But he should be allowed to play at No. 4 as long as he is scoring the runs,” quoted Sourav Ganguly.

Talking about the prediction for the series, Ganguly backed the Indian side to win the final ODI at Kanpur and seal the series. “Don’t predict in cricket. But India are favorites to win the series. It’s is very hard to beat India in India and I think Virat Kohli’s side will keep the record intact,” he said.

Harbhajan speaks on the same lines

Meanwhile, veteran cricketer Harbhajan Singh also opined that Karthik has the right technique and ability to play at the number four position. He expressed his happiness over the way Karthik got runs under his belt at a time when he was expected to deliver the goods.

“Happy to see Dinesh Karthik batting at No. 4. He is one of those guys who has the correct technique to bat at No. 4. Good to see him getting those runs and I’m sure these will boost his confidence and also Virat Kohli. I’m sure you will see better performances in the future,” Harbhajan Singh quoted.
