Dinesh Karthik will make all the decisions in KKR: Eoin Morgan
Morgan also talked about his maiden stint for KKR from 2011 to 2013.
England ODI and T20I skipper Eoin Morgan reckons that Dinesh Karthik would be making all the decisions for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Back in December 2019, the Knights bought the southpaw for INR 5.25 crores. As far as Karthik is concerned, he has been leading KKR since 2018, but has had a pretty topsy-turvy run during his stint.
Morgan returned to the Knights after plying his trade for them from 2011 to 2013 after which he moved to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In 52 IPL matches, the 33-year-old has 854 runs at 21.35 with four half-centuries. Recalling his old times with the franchise, Morgan stated that he tried to learn from his former teammates.
“KKR hold a big place in my heart, not only for the experience I had in three seasons there, but also because I met Trevor Bayliss. It was where our relationship started. When I look back at the time we spent together there, it was invaluable,” Morgan was quoted as saying to Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz.
We have different leadership styles: Eoin Morgan
“The group of players that have now retired, Brendon McCullum, Brett Lee and Jacques Kallis are the guys I learned from. I’m looking forward to getting back to KKR and contributing towards their success,” he stated.
Morgan admitted that he and Karthik have different styles of leadership. Moreover, Morgan was of the opinion that he will be more than happy to help him out in the hour of need. “I met with Dinesh (Karthik) pre-Christmas and he’s a great guy and a fantastic cricketer. He is the leader at the club.
“The big thing for me was that he understood that I want to give and help. We have different leadership styles, but ultimately, Dinesh will be making all the decisions and I’ll be like a sounding board,” Morgan added.
Apart from Morgan, the Knights also roped in the likes of Pat Cummins, the Australian paceman, who was also with KKR, and the talented Tom Banton, who came up the ranks after the T20 Blast in 2019, playing for Somerset. The Knights couldn’t qualify for the playoffs in 2019 and they would want to make amends.
