The Indian captain Virat Kohli and the Aussie skipper Steve Smith have been in exemplary form nowadays at the international level. Recently, the latter slammed one of the best Ashes tons which gave his team the upper hand over the poms. Soon Kohli brought up his fifth double century in the recently concluded second Test match against Sri Lanka. The cricketing fraternity has been busy discussing since then the greatest modern day batsmen among them. However, the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly feels that both shouldn’t be compared.

Ricky Ponting, the Aussie legend, hailed Smith earlier this week after he notched up his 21st Test ton against England in the first Ashes match. He weathered all the plans of the visitors and buckled down to play one of the best knocks in the format. Kohli and Smith both have been outperforming statistically as captains of their respective teams and average over 60 and 70 respectively. They thrive when the onus is on them and surely the comparison is bound to happen when it comes to the fans of the gentleman’s game.

Virat Kohli is special

Sourav Ganguly, while speaking to India Today, believed that both the cricketers should not be compared but felt Virat Kohli is special for his hunger to score runs. “Don’t compare Kohli and Smith. For me both of them are right up there and both are the best batsmen in the world today. Virat is special. the way Kohli is always hungry for runs, always charged up and energetic and the way he turns tables is phenomenal,” he said.

The President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) also compared the recent heroic performances of Kohli and Smith. Smith’s century came against a much better opposition while Virat’s double century was against a relatively weaker bowling attack. But he also said that this fact takes nothing away from Kohli. Kohli has been fantastic,” he concluded praising the Indian captain.
