Don't see myself playing for any other IPL team: Virat Kohli

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner and the buzz is back. There’s been a pretty big build-up to the 12th edition as the stars have started joining their respective franchises. India skipper Virat Kohli joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) training camp on Saturday (16th March).

Kohli is one of the biggest names in world cricket at the moment. However, he is the only cricketer who has played for just one franchise in IPL in the last 11 years. There have been players who have played just for a single franchise but none of them have played since the IPL’s inception. The Delhi-born batsman has been with RCB right from season one and has played 163 matches for the franchise.

The RCB skipper has acknowledged that he will not leave the franchise in his career. In fact, he admitted that he can’t see himself playing for another franchise. “To me, it (playing for RCB) has been a most special experience. I don’t see myself leaving or playing for any other franchise,” Kohli was quoted saying to the reporters during RCB’s official app launch.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are one of the biggest underachievers in the history of the IPL. They have reached the tournament finals thrice but haven’t lifted the title even once. Season after season, their promise just turns into disappointment.

Virat Kohli has been leading the side since 2013 and under his captaincy, RCB reached the playoffs on just two occasions (out of which they reached the finals once). He has been their premier batsman, scoring 4,948 runs at an average of 38.36. However, his brilliance with the bat hasn’t helped the team. Eventually, the 30-year-old Kohli put it down to bad decision making.

“The (RCB’s) failure lies where decisions aren’t made properly. If I sit here and say our luck was bad, that won’t be right. You make your own luck, and if you make poor decisions and the other team makes good ones, you will lose,” the RCB skipper said, reflecting on the overall performance of RCB across 11 seasons.
