Dropping him can do a world of good to Amir, says Kapil Dev
Kapil seemed to be mighty impressed with India's performance in the Asia Cup 2018.
Former Indian skipper, Kapil Dev backed Pakistani selectors decision to drop Mohammad Amir from the Test squad for the Australia series. The left-arm quick had a horrific time in 2018. He found it tough to get amongst the wickets. In the 24 innings, he played across formats this year, he only picked 29 wickets. In ODIs, the pacer only managed to get three scalps in 10 games.
Following up his poor show in the Asia Cup, he was dropped from the Pakistan squad. However, Kapil Dev opined that this decision would do Amir a world of good. He added that Amir will have to work really hard and said that it was only a matter of time before the cricketer will make it back to the international arena.
Kapil Dev backs Amir to come back strong
Speaking to Gulf News on the sidelines of Asia Cup final, “Sometimes, fast bowlers go into the comfort zone. Perhaps dropping him can do a world of good to Amir. I personally feel he is a very good bowler but sometime fast bowlers get into a comfort zone and stop performing. This is what has happened to Amir,” the former all-rounder said.
“He has the ability and talent, moreover, he is a left-arm pacer. When Wasim Akram thinks he is very good, I have to take his word. If he feels Amir is good, he must be very good but however good you are, one has to work hard. I feel it is just a matter of time before he regains his form,” he further added.
Also, Kapil hailed Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah for their performances. He was impressed with the competition among the pacers and added that captaincy isn’t a new thing for Rohit Sharma. Furthermore, he regarded Kedar Jadhav as a ‘special kind of bowler’ and concluded by saying that the Windies series will be an easy one for India.
