Priyam Garg is one of the most promising young cricketers India have. He is only 18 years old and undoubtedly, has a bright future in the offing. He is currently a part of the India Green team in the 2019 Duleep Trophy. However, all is not well with the youngster by any means. The Meerut-born batsman had a tough outing in the match versus India Red in Alur.

He was hit on the neck while fielding at silly point on the fourth day of the encounter. The Young Turk was conscious, but was in a significant amount of pain. The physio rushed on to the field to check on Garg’s well-being and then applied ice pack on the injured area. An ambulance was brought on to the field and he was then taken to the hospital for scans.

“Initially, we had suspected a concussion and that’s why took him for some scans. But he never showed any signs of a concussion. Still we are sending the MRIs to another radiologist for a second opinion but as of now he is fine and can bat as well,” Prasanth Panchada, the physio of the Indian Green team was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.

Priyam Garg hit by Avesh Khan’s backfoot punch

The unfortunate incident took place in the final delivery of the 138th over of India Red’s innings. The over was being bowled by leg-spin bowler Rahul Chahar, who recently made his international debut in the T20I series West Indies. Avesh Khan, who was on strike, churned out a hard backfoot punch and Garg found himself in the firing line.

He tried to take evasive action, but couldn’t evade the ball. Fortunately, Garg’s helmet had a neck guard, which softened the impact. For the time being, it remains to be seen what are the further developments in Garg’s case while the cricketing fraternity will be praying for his fast recovery

Garg has had an impressive career thus far. In 12 first-class matches, he has 867 runs at a decent average of 66.69 to go with a couple of centuries and five half-centuries. He was recently a part of the India U19 team that played the tri-nation one day series in England also involving Bangladesh.
