Dwayne Bravo recalled to West Indies squad for T20I series against Ireland
West Indies announced a full strength squad for Ireland T20I series.
West Indies whitewashed Ireland in three-match ODI series with sheer dominance. And, now they will lock horns in the shorter format of the game. Meanwhile, the good news for the fans is the arrival of veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo back into the national side. The series will begin from 15th of January at National Cricket Stadium at St George’s in Grenada.
Dwane Bravo bid adieu to international cricket back in October 2018. But, last month he came out of retirement after the recruitment of new team management and board charge. He is arguably one of the best bowling all-rounders across the globe, who play for several teams in different tournaments.
So far, he has donned national jersey in 66 T20Is in which he has muscled 1470 runs and 52 wickets. The 36-year-old played his T20I game against Pakistan in 2016 and it looks now he will be once again spotted wearing his national jersey on the ground.
Dwayne Bravo all set to play against Ireland
Roger Harper, the chief selector of West Indies said that they have recalled the veteran all-rounder to strengthen their bowling in the death overs as it is one of the major areas where the team needs a lot of improvement. Moreover, his stats speak for itself how capable he is in that specific position. He will also work as a mentor in the team that will be an added advantage for the young bowlers.
The selector also highlighted the inclusion of Rovman Powell back into the national side. He feels that the 26-year-old is an exciting player, who has given some brilliant performances in the recent past with the bat and ball.
“Dwayne Bravo was recalled with the specific intention of bolstering our ‘death’ bowling which was identified as an area that really needs improving. His record in this department speaks for itself. He will also be able to act as a mentor to the other ‘death’ bowlers and lend his experience wherever needed.
“Rovman Powell is a genuine all-rounder who we believe can add impetus and up the strike rate at the back-end of the innings. He was excellent in the Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 Cup – where he scored two excellent centuries and a 96 and also had some other good performances,” Roger Harper said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
