Earlier Rohit Sharma did not have the discipline, but now he does have that, says Wasim Jaffer

He also added that Rohit needs to play straight and try to leave as many balls as he can and should get behind the line of the ball to play with the full face of the bat.

India is currently hosting a Test series against South Africa, and the hosts will have a lot of things to find positive from this series. It is a three-Test match banter. Team India has been struggling with the problems in their opening position. Mayank Agarwal has been pretty good but there is none to partner him. In the past, they have used Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul and Murali Vijay at this position but neither of them turned out to be successful for the Team.

Now, the selectors have picked Rohit Sharma for this series and will expect their team’s limited over opener to perform well against Proteas so that their long search in terms of opener can come to an end, but former cricketer Wasim Jaffer has some positive opinion over this experiment of Team India and feels Rohit Sharma will be a great thing for the team in Tests.

Former Indian opener has a piece of advice for Rohit Sharma

Wasim Jaffer is one of the Indian openers who played his last Test for India in 2008 against Proteas. He knows all the difficulties that batsmen face and has advised that patience will be a key to success for Rohit in this format. 32-year-old can bring in his limited-overs opening experience into play. It will take at least 30 to 40 deliveries for him to get settle down as the bowlers in this format pitch the ball up that allows the batsman to take some risks but Rohit needs to be calm throughout his innings and play according to the field setup.

He also added that Rohit needs to play straight and try to leave as many balls as he can and should get behind the line of the ball to play with the full face of the bat. Jaffer also discussed his wicket during the warm-up match against South Africa and said that he has a tendency to push the ball away from his body which gives the close fielders a chance to catch the ball but feels that Rohit has the experience to learn from his mistakes, “Earlier Rohit did not have the discipline needed to get past difficult situations, but now he does have that.” The 41-year-old cricketer said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

The former batsman also recalled the advice given to him by the legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar during the start of his career that a bowler should be given his time and opportunity and if an hour is given to the bowler, after that, the next five hours will go in favor of batsman.
