Ed Cowan believes England is 'not a very good team'
English players wont be able to face the four-pronged pace attack of Aussies
Former Australian opener Ed Cowan stated that the English team is not a good enough side at the moment to overhaul the Australian team down under. Cowan believes that there are only a handful of good players currently in the English ranks. The left-handed batsman scored over 1000 runs in Test matches with the highest score of 136. He has scored one century and two half-centuries in Tests.
Many would remember him from the time he made his debut against India in the Boxing day Test match at Melbourne back in 2011. He last played a Test match for Australia in the Ashes back in summer of 2013. Since then, he has been out of the reckoning for the Australian side. England faces Australia in the riveting Ashes series at the end of the year in Australian summer.
The five-match Test series is supposed to commence on 23rd November at the Gabba, Brisbane. Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney host the remaining matches. The last time these two sides met was during the English summer of 2015. The Michael Clarke-led team lost the urn to England as they lost the series 3-2. England would look to seek vengeance for their humiliating defeat of 5-0, the last time they visited the nation.
Ed Cowan, however, asserted that the English team has no chance against the likes Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, James Pattinson and Pat Cummins. Cowan, who has played 18 Test matches for his country, stated that this is the best bowling line-up since the era if Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie.
“Absolutely,” Cowan said on Fox Sports when asked if Australia could regain the Ashes. “England are not a very good team. They’ve got four good players I reckon. And we’re going to have the best fast-bowling attack Australia’s seen since (Glenn) McGrath, (Brett) Lee and (Jason) Gillespie all bowled together.”
