Educational qualifications of Indian cricketers

Cricket is like a religion in India. Every fan knows almost every detail of the players who play for the national team. From their background to what they are up to in their professional and personal lives. Modern-day cricket fans are not just followers of the game but like to be in touch with the cricketers off the field as well while doing that they also make sure to buy products of the brands that their favorite cricketer endorses. But seldom do we get access to their academic details. Here we bring to you the educational qualifications of some of the top Indian cricketers. 1. Ajinkya Rahane: Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane is one of the most technically sound batsmen in the Indian team at the moment and has not just found success in the sub-continent but has relished his chances of playing in tougher conditions like in England and Australia. Ajinkya has done his bachelors in Commerce from a university in Mumbai. 2. Ravichandran Ashwin: Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin rose to fame with his T20 performances but has developed his game to be a successful bowler in the longest version of the game as well. He was without a doubt the go-to spinner of Indian skipper MS Dhoni. As far as his qualification is concerned Ravi Ashwin has done his B.Tech from Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering Chennai. 3. Rohit Sharma: Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma. Rohit has studied only up to class 12th because he got selected for International cricket. He completed his primary education at Our Lady of Vailankanni High School. He was then admitted to Swami Vivekananda School on scholarship which he got due to his excellent performances in school cricket and his coach Dinesh Lad was a coach at the school. He also studied in the Rizvi College, Mumbai. 4. Shikhar Dhawan: Shikhar Dhawan (Photo Source: Twitter) Shikhar Dhawan, fondly known as Gabbar has been the opener for the Indian cricket team since 2013 and has formed a formidable pair with Rohit. Early in his life, Dhawan put cricket ahead of his career and dropped out after he finished 12th. He did his schooling from St. Marks Senior Secondary School, Paschim Vihar, Delhi. 5. The southpaw has numerous IPL records to his name as well- one among which is being the first batsman to score 3000 runs. He just had finished his 12th when he decided to pursue his career in cricket. Raina shifted to Lucknow to attend the specialist government Sports College. He then completed his B.com graduation with correspondence from Delhi University. 6. MS Dhoni: (Photo Source: BCCI) The maestro behind the stumps, M S Dhoni has mesmerized fans around the world with his batting, wicketkeeping and captaincy skills. Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the best wicket-keepers and finishers of all time. He first studied at the DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir where he was keenly interested in football and badminton. He then went on to St. Xavier’s College of Ranchi but dropped out as he was attracted to the game of cricket and he started making a name for himself here. Dhoni was keen to complete his graduation but due to his cricketing commitments couldn’t appear for final exams. Following team Indian’s victorious campaign in the World Cup 2011 Sr. Xavier’s decided to give him an honorary degree. 7. His class and dependability with the bat has seen him be on the line to break many a records that stood there for ages. Kohli also could study only upto 12th at the Vishal Bharti Public School, New Delhi. His cricketing journey right from his Delhi and India U19 years is well known to the world. 8. Yuvraj Singh: Yuvraj Singh. (Photo Source: YouWeCan) Yuvraj Singh is one of those sportsmen who has battled his way back not only into the team with performances but also in life. Yuvi has been out of favors for quite a few occasions but has managed to lift himself and his game to make a comeback. The 2011 World Cup Player of the tournament has just studied till high school at the DAV Public School in Chandigarh. 9. In his short international career, Bumrah has left the best of the best batsmen stumped. From an early age, he showed minimal interest in studies and played cricket with lot of intent. He just did his schooling from Nirman High School, Ahmedabad and has been pursuing his cricketing career since then. 10. Hardik Pandya: Hardik Pandya. (Photo Source: BCCI) Hardik Pandya, the youngster from Baroda has been the talk of the town not just for his skills on the cricket field but also for his flamboyance. An allrounder he is not just good with the bat and ball but also an exceptional fielder. Pandya entered the national team for the tour of Australia and since then featured in all games the team played including the World T20 2016. He didn’t find real success academically as he failed in his ninth grade and decided to concentrate on cricket and has been rewarded for his dedication. 11. One of the most successful captains in Indian cricket Ganguly has finished his graduation in St. Xavier’s College of Kolkata and dedicated the rest of his years to the game of cricket. 12. Rahul Dravid: (Photo Source: BCCI) The wall of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid always troubled the bowlers with his patience and ability to stand the test of time and concentration when the team required the most. ‘Jammy’ as he is fondly known as did his schooling from St. Joseph’s school and completed his graduation in commerce from St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore and was studying MBA from St Joseph’s College of Business Administration itself when he was called into the Indian team. 13. Javagal Srinath: ormer Indian cricketer Javagal Srinath. He was one of the key members of the India team that made it to the finals of the 2003 World Cup. Srinath is the only Indian fast bowler to have taken more than 300 wickets in ODIs. He was persistent with education while concentrating on cricket and graduated with a bachelor’s in Engineering in Instrumentation Technology degree from Shri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore. 14. Anil Kumble: Anil Kumble. (© Getty Images) The best spinner India has produced, Anil Kumble was the greatest asset in the bowling department for India for more than a decade. Kumble completed his pre-university college education from National College Basavanagudi. The former Indian Test skipper completed his graduation in B.E in Mechanical Engineering from R.V College of Engineering. 15. Gautam Gambhir definitely has a place for himself in Indian cricket history with his knocks in the final of the T20 World Cup 2007 and the ICC World Cup in 2011 that ensured a win for the team. The captain who has won two IPL trophies for the Kolkata Knight Riders has a degree from the Hindu College, New Delhi. 16. Virender Sehwag: Virender Sehwag. One of the best openers Indian cricket has ever had, Virender Sehwag was known for his fierce, singular, and aggressive approach while batting. Sehwag did his schooling from Arora Vidya School, Delhi and got his graduation degree from the Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi. 17. VVS Laxman: VVS Laxman raises his bat. He was one of the best Test batsmen for India and on most occasions stood there when the team was in need for a resistant knock. VVS towards the later half of his career was regarded as a second inning specialist as he played some remarkable knocks in the fourth innings of Tests. He completed his schooling from Little Flower High School, Hyderabad. After completion of 10+2 Laxman started pursuing a medical degree course but he ultimately chose cricket instead of a career in medicine. 18. Murali Vijay: Murali Vijay. (Photo Source: BCCI) Murali Vijay made his debut against Australia in 2006 and has been an important player for India in Test cricket. One of the most assured Test batsmen in the country at the moment Vijay is called ‘Monk’ by his teammates. The opener is a highly qualified and holds a post graduate degree in Economics. 19. Sachin Tendulkar: Sachin Tendulkar. (Photo Source: AFP) The ‘God of Cricket’ for millions and one of the greatest ambassadors of the game Sachin Tendulkar is known for holding a lot of records in the batting arena of the game. The little master couldn’t do much in education because of his early entry into the game at the age of 16. He could complete his education up to 12th grade from Shardashram Vidyamandir before getting starting his professional life. 20. Zaheer Khan: Zaheer Khan. The best left-arm pacer the nation has ever seen could swing the ball both the ways and performed really well even in the sub-continent conditions. He dropped out of engineering to dedicate his life to the game of cricket.
