Michael Vaughan has been perhaps the most trolled man in the cricket fraternity from the last couple of months thanks to his predictions about the just-concluded Test series between India and Australia. Even before the series had started, he had predicted a 4-0 series win in the favour of the hosts. The former cricketer had later reaffirmed his prediction after India’s 8-wicket loss in the first Test at the Adelaide Oval.

But Team India were quick to make Vaughan eat his words by registering a sensational win in the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). But even after that Vaughan was not confident about India’s chances in the series and had predicted that the visitors would lose the series by a margin of 3-1. But the Ajinkya Rahane-led side has left Vaughan red-faced by winning the series by 2-1.

On Tuesday, the visitors thrashed Australia by three wickets in the fourth and final Test at the Gabba to seal the series in style. Chasing an improbable 328, India scored the required 324 runs on a fifth day pitch to leave Australia stunned at a venue where they had not lost a game since 1988. Rishabh Pant (89*), Shubman Gill (91) and Cheteshwar Pujara (56) led India’s charge with the bat as they chased down the total with three overs remaining.

Michael Vaughan’s reaction after India’s win

Unsurprisingly, Michael Vaughan was heavily trolled after India’s win at the Gabba and the former batsman was quick to admit that he was wrong with his predictions. Vaughan took to Twitter to congratulate India for pulling off ‘one of the greatest if not the greatest Test victory of all time’ over and admitted he had ‘egg on his face’ after predicting a whitewash in the favour of the hosts. He also called Pant and Gill future superstars.

“Wow .. That has to go down as one of the greatest if not the greatest Test victory of all time !! Egg on my face over here in the UK .. but I love to see character & skill .. India have it in abundance .. btw @RealShubmanGill & @RishabhPant17 are future superstars !” tweeted Michael Vaughan.

Vaughan also poked fun at himself by posting a hilarious photo on Instagram. He posted a picture with an egg superimposed over his face on his Instagram page and wrote, “That feeling when you predict India would lose 4-0 if they lost in Adelaide !!! Without question it has to be the greatest Test series win of all time … Well done India !!! Incredible character , resilience & tremendous skill shown !!!”
