Emirates Cricket Board chairman unveils Asia Cup trophy in Abu Dhabi

The 2022 Asia Cup is the 15th edition of the competition, which is set to commence on August 27 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The trophy was unveiled in Abu Dhabi on August 19, Saturday, by Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, the Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board. Among others in the trophy unveiling ceremony were Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mubashshir Usmani, the General Secretary of Emirates Cricket Board, Subhan Ahmed, the Advisor of Emirates Cricket Board, Prabhakaran Thanraj, the Head of Events and Commercial of Asian Cricket Council, and Thusith Perera, the GM Finance and Operations of Asian Cricket Council. The tournament was earlier planned to take place in Sri Lanka. It was later moved to the middle-east due to the economic crisis in Sri Lanka. It will be held across two venues – the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which will host nine games, including the final, and Sharjah Cricket Stadium, which will host four games. The UAE also hosted the previous edition in 2018 and also the T20 World Cup last year. And India will come into the 2022 Asia Cup as the defending champions. India also won the competition in 2016 and seven times overall. Sri Lanka have won the title five times, and Pakistan have won it two times. There will be six teams divided into two groups in the 2022 Asia Cup. India, Pakistan, and the qualifier (yet to be decided) are in Group A, and Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are in Group B. The qualifying rounds will be held before the start of the tournament in Oman, and the final will take place on September 11.
