ENG vs IND 2021, 4th Test, Day 5 Stats Review: Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli rewrite record books as India register comprehensive win
Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest Indian pacer to take 100 Test wickets.
After numerous twists and turns, India defeated England by 157 runs in the fourth Test match. It was indeed a remarkable victory as not many backed the visitors to even save the game after they got bundled out for 191 runs in the first innings. However, as the saying goes, the only thing certain in cricket is uncertainty. India scripted a remarkable comeback and thrashed the Three Lions at the Kennington Oval in London.
With this, Virat Kohli’s men have also gained an unassailable 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Notably, the game seemed perfectly poised at stumps on Day 4. Chasing 368 for victory, England finished the penultimate day at 77/0. Hence, they needed 291 runs on the final day with all the 10 wickets in hand. Moreover, the track didn’t have a lot of assistance for bowlers.
However, Team India embraced the challenge and dented England’s plans. Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah rattled the home team’s top order, putting their side on command. As a result, the Three Lions were reduced to 147/6 despite a 100-run opening stand.
While the Virat Kohli-led side looked entirely in command, England skipper Joe Root didn’t go down that easily. Despite running out of partners, he played valiantly to keep his side in the hunt. However, he fell prey to Shardul Thakur after scoring 36 and the fate of the contest was decided. England eventually got skittled out for 210, losing the crucial game by 157 runs.
