ENG vs IND: Alex Hales ready to sacrifice his place for Ben Stokes in final T20I in Bristol
Hales played a match-winning knock the previous day in Cardiff.
After an indifferent performance at the Old Trafford in Manchester, England came back to brush aside India in the second T20I at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Alex Hales floundered in the first match and was eventually dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav after a painful vigil. He made amends in the second contest and scored a match-winning half-century. Most importantly, he played until the very end.
However, despite the stupendous knock, he may have to sit out in the next match at the County Ground in Bristol. Ben Stokes, who was suffering from a hamstring injury, has been added to the T20I squad for the decider. On Thursday, he played a whirlwind knock of 90 runs from 68 balls versus Yorkshire in the country’s domestic T20 tournament.
“I have no answer”- Hales
Nevertheless, he plied his trade as a specialist batsman. Hence, there’s a chance that England might not hand him the leather, provided he is drafted into the eleven. Meanwhile, Hales reckons that there’s no easy solution in order to keep winning matches. He also talked about his own task on the cricket pitch.
“I have no answer. I’m doing all I can to score runs and keep putting pressure on the guys who know they’re playing. If it’s me that’s left out, you look at the guys who are playing ahead of me, and what can you do?” Hales was quoted as saying in Sport360.
He came in to bat following Jos Buttler’s dismissal inside the powerplay but didn’t panic. Albeit the required rate escalated, he churned out calculative strokes to get his team close to a victory. In the last over, the Brits needed 12 runs and the right-hander spanked a six and a four off Bhuvneshwar Kumar to help his team draw level in the series.
