England destroys India on Day one of the third Test
The England cricket team absolutely destroyed the Indian batting lineup on the first Day of the third Test match at Headingley. After opting to bat first, the Indian side was shot out for a paltry total of just 78 runs, and the Indian willow wielders were rendered clueless by the England pacers.
39-year-old pace bowling legend James Anderson cleaned up the Indian top order, scalping the wickets of KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli in quick succession. In an incredible 8 over spell, Anderson gave away just 6 runs, and also picked up 3 wickets as well.
Apart from Anderson, Craig Overton also picked up 3 wickets as well. The likes of Ollie Robinson and Sam Curran prized out two willow wielders each. For India, expect Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 19 and 18 respectively, no other Indian batsman could even cross the 20-run mark in the first innings.
England ended Day one at a commanding 120/0, and already lead India by 42 runs. Both Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed scored half-centuries for the hosts. India currently leads the five-match Test series 1-0. While the first Test at Nottingham ended in a draw, India thrashed the England side by 151 runs at Lord’s in the second rubber.
