The rescheduled Test match between England and India has been hit by racism. A set of Indian fans who were rooting for their team during the Day 4 of the Test match being played at Edgbaston faced racist abuse from England. A series of allegations were made on the micro-blogging site Twitter on July 4 (Monday) where Indian fans had to face the wrath of some distasteful English crowd.

After Yorkshire cricketer Azeem Rafiq highlighted the issue and flagged several of the allegations through his Twitter account, an investigation has been launched for allegations of racist abuse among the spectators on the second last day of the Test match being played between two giants of the cricketing world.

We reported it to the stewards and showed them the culprits but they told us to sit in our seats: Twitter user tweeted

One of the Tweets that the Yorkshire cricketer Rafiq retweeted stated, “Racist behaviour at @Edgbaston towards Indian fans in block 22 Eric Hollies. People calling us Curry C**ts and paki bas****s. We reported it to the stewards and showed them the culprits at least 10 times but no response and all we were told is to sit in our seats. @ECB_cricket”

The user also went on to write, “We were also fearful of our safety for women and children but no assistance when we left. This is unacceptable in todays society.” The user also tagged the official Twitter handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

As far as the Test match is concerned, the home team is in the driver’s seat as they need just 119 runs to win and level the Test series. At present, former skipper Joe Root (76 runs) and in-form batter Jonny Bairstow (72) are playing for the Three Lions and are looking very comfortable on the crease.

Earlier on Day 4, England’s bowling line-up also made a strong comeback as India went from 153/4 to 245/10 in their second innings. The visitors will have to do something out of the box to make a strong comeback in the Test match and register a historic series victory on English soil.
