ENG vs IND: Ollie Robinson reflects on his old racist tweets after bagging a fifer

England pacer Ollie Robinson came back strongly after having been suspended by England Cricket Board (ECB) for his historic past Tweets by bagging a five-wicket haul against India on day three of the first Test match in Trent Bridge. The pacer supported veteran pacer James Anderson and didn’t allow India to run away with the lead in the first innings.

But things were not the same for the 27-year-old during his debut Test match against New Zealand when his old Tweets resurfaced on social media, which led to a lot of backslashes for him as well as for the ECB. Robinson during those two to three months reflected on his past historic Tweets as a teenager back in 2013 and spoke about how a better person he came out from that experience.

After the end of play on Day three of the Test, the pacer opened about what he said when he was 18 years old back in 2013. “I was young 18-19 years old. I made a lot of mistakes, not just those tweets. I’ve grown as a person a lot in that time. Obviously, I’ve learned a lot try to develop as a person in the last 10 years. I try to make myself the best person I can be. It was the toughest period in my life. It affected myself and my family but, I’ve learned a lot since then.”

India started day three with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant at the crease. As the partnership was building between the duo, skipper Joe Root brought Robinson into the attack and, he quickly responded by sending Pant. But India’s tail wagged and took them to a healthy lead of 95 runs.

Robinson toiled hard for his five wickets and played a perfect foil to Anderson by picking up regular wickets. “It was quite tough and, to get the rewards, in the end, was pleasing,” he said.

England ended day three by scoring 25 runs without any damage. The home team would look to score more runs and look to set India a good target. Meanwhile, the visitors will be hoping for early wickets in the first hour of play on Day Four of the Test match in Trent Bridge.
