Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer wished India’s recently appointed Test skipper Jasprit Bumrah for his upcoming stint in a very quirky way as he derived an analogy from MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Bumrah is set to become India’s 36th Test captain as he will lead the side in the much-awaited fifth (rescheduled) Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Bumrah was chosen for the top position after Rohit Sharma was unable to recuperate from COVID-19. Bumrah will be the first fast bowler to captain India in a Test match after Kapil Dev. Bumrah has long been regarded as the unquestioned leader of the pace attack, but the upcoming game is going to be a challenge for him when he faces the in-form English Team.
As he heads for a difficult yet interesting task, Jaffer wished him luck in a very creative manner as he took to Twitter to write: “Congratulations and good luck to @Jaspritbumrah93 you can take inspiration from the fact that last Indian who captained the country before leading in FC/List A/IPL ended up taking India to no.1 Test ranking and winning 3 ICC trophies #ENGvIND.”

Bumrah looks to win his maiden captaincy assignment
Bumrah’s captaincy record in First-class, List-A, and even the Indian Premier League for that matter, is zero. He has never led a team earlier and thus will be up for a very new challenge as he will be starting his captaincy career by leading the Indian team.
Similar was the case with MS Dhoni. The legendary skipper had no experience before leading the Indian side. But he did not let that fact affect his ideas and intentions, as he led the team to three big ICC trophies. Meanwhile, India has had only three series wins in England so far and while they will look to clinch their fourth series, the in-form England will look to win the final game in order to level the series 2-2.
