England cricket trolls critics for saying country can't produce quality spinners
England have always found it difficult to produce a quality spinner.
Critics lashed out at England cricket team for its inability to produce a quality spinner after the exile of off-spinner Graeme Swann in 2013. Critics came out with a post on England cricket’s official Twitter handle saying “England don’t produce quality spinners.”
England cricket didn’t take it well and gave a befitting reply to the critics by posting a picture of Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali and Jack Leach sitting on a bench and having a good laugh. Soon, the tweet went viral and invited many retweets and likes from all over the world.
While some of the followers were convinced with the response others were still finding it hard to digest. They hit back at the England cricket by saying that the veteran right arm spinner Graeme Swann was the last world class spinner country has produced.
Here’s the tweet on England cricket’s Twitter handle:
England have always found it difficult to produce a quality spinner who is capable of outperforming its pace attack. It has produced loads of world-class swing bowlers like James Anderson, Stuart Broad etc. However, Swann was the only spinner produced by England so far, who was rated among the best in the world.
Adil Rashid may be termed as the best spinner around in the world in limited overs cricket, but in the longer format of the game, he has not been able to perform up to his potential. Rashid has taken a total of 51 wickets in 16 matches he has played in Test cricket at an average of almost 40 which clearly suggests that he is not even close of being termed as a quality spinner.
Moeen Ali, on the other hand, has been exceptional with the ball in Test cricket lately, picking up wickets when matters. Although, he is taking wickets in the longer format, the wickets are coming in bits and pieces and not regularly. He is more of a part-time bowler who bowls in order to fill the gaps and give rest to the main bowlers. Between that, he picks up 1 or 2 wickets. Ali is still not the go-to bowler for his captain, who can spin big and win matches for the team like Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan etc.
