The fifth Test between England and India are currently taking place at Kennington Oval in London and the home team well and truly has the advantage with a lead of 158 runs and four Indian wickets to pick in the first innings. Jos Buttler and Stuart Broad piled on the agony for Virat Kohli and Co and got their team up to a substantial score of 332 runs.

Thereafter, the Brits’ bowlers strangled the Indian batters and picked up wickets at regular intervals. Recently, Gautam Gambhir mentioned that the failures of the Indian batsmen to carry on after getting their eyes in cost India. KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara scored 37 each while Kohli got 49 runs. Unfortunately, all there perished to the venom of the English speedsters.

India have got a daunting task ahead

“It was a disappointing day for India. First Jos Buttler helped England put 330 odd runs and then the Indian batting disappointed big time. It was a decent wicket to bat on. Undoubtedly, the ball was swinging, but some of the batters who got starts couldn’t convert. All of Pujara, Kohli, and Rahul couldn’t convert,” Gambhir was quoted as saying in The Times of India (TOI)

“The only difference between both the sides were the likes of Alastair Cook and Buttler, who converted their starts. The English bowlers especially James Anderson and Stuart Broad were fantastic and now it’s going to be a massive challenge for India to save this Test match or even compete,” the Delhi-born cricketer added.

Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Hanuma Vihari are the overnight batsmen and they have a difficult task ahead of them to bail their team out of the precarious. The 36-year-old didn’t mince any words in saying that the Three Lions are in a position of command.  He also said the all’s not lost for India and they can still make a comeback.

“India have got a daunting task ahead as they still trail by 158 runs with the last recognised pair in the middle. With Vihari and Jadeja in, they would be looking to have a partnership of 50 odd and try and decrease the deficit. England are definitely in a position of command,” he added.
