England v New Zealand World T20 - Combined XI

England and New Zealand, after fighting it out intensely at the group stage are ready to take against each other for the place in the finals when they meet at Delhi for the 1st semi-final. New Zealand has had a dream run in the tournament so far. the Black Caps are unbeaten and have looked pretty dominant having taken full benefits of the Indian conditions. England, on the other hand, started off with a heartbreaking loss but then recovered well to advance to the knockout stage. Both teams have good spinners and excellent power hitters in their line-up which makes the upcoming contest a mouthwatering one. Here is how the combined XI of both the teams looks like: Martin Guptill: Martin Guptill. (Photo Source: Twitter) Martin Guptill is having great 2016. The right-hander came into the tournament with plenty of runs under his belt and continued his amazing run of form in the World T20 too. He has scored 125 runs as an opener in just 3 games. His best knock of the tournament is the 80-run inning which he played against the Pakistan at Mohali. Guptill did not play in the last encounter where his team faced Bangladesh but will surely return to the top of the order for tomorrow’s match. Kane Williamson (C): New Zealand’s captain Kane Williamson. Williamson is a great batsman across all the formats for his team now but his captaincy has been even more noteworthy. He has sprung surprises with his decisions and has led his team to a clean sheet so far, winning all their Super 10 stage games. With the bat, he has been little below par according to his standards having scored 91 runs in 4 games at an average of around 22. Joe Root: Joe Root. (Photo Source: Twitter) Joe Root is England’s finest batsman at the moment. He is currently the highest run getter for his team in the tournament and stands fourth on the overall list. Root has accumulated 168 runs at an average of 42 in the four games. He has been the backbone of the English batting order and has rescues the team out of tricky situations couple of times including his match-winning knock of 83 runs which he played against South Africa at Mumbai which helped England complete the record chase. But, he hasn’t been able to perform to his caliber in this tournament. He has been quiet silent but would definitely want to blast runs in the knockouts. He has shown signs as well. Taylor’s 36* and 28 against Pakistan and Bangladesh indicate that he getting into the rhythm and can get back to his old run-scoring ways in the upcoming game. Jos Buttler (wk): England batsman Jos Buttler. (Photo by PRAKASH SINGH/AFP/Getty Images) Jos Buttler has been one of the most important players in the new look England team. The aggressive wicketkeeper batsman had a silent tournament until he decimated the Sri Lankans at Delhi. The right-hander hit a vital 66* off just 37 balls to almost single-handedly propel his team to a formidable score. Perhaps, from the team’s point of view, it was the most appropriate time for him to come back into form. He currently has 123 runs from 4 games in the tournament. Grant Elliot: New Zealand cricketer Grant Elliott. (Photo by INDRANIL MUKHERJEE/AFP/Getty Images) The South African born New Zealand all-rounder is best known for his wonderful knock against South Africa in the 2015 World Cup. But, Grant Elliott is yet to repeat such performance in the ongoing World T20. He has scored a handful of runs whenever he has got the opportunity with the bat. The right-hander is a handy seamer and has made up for the lack of runs with economical bowling on the slow dry tracks. Elliot has taken only three wickets in India which is not very extraordinary but it is his economy rate of below 6 runs an over which make him an apt part time bowler in the team. He hasn’t got many runs with the bat and at the same time has failed to make use of the spin-friendly conditions and take wickets for his team. His only considerable knock in the tournament has been the unbeaten 43 which he made against Afghanistan. With the ball, he has taken 4 wickets with an economy of over 10 runs in the four games he has played. However, Ali has been a great contributor to his team in both department and who know he might make up all the below par show in the all-important semi-final game. Chris Jordan: Chris Jordan of England. (© Getty Images) The death overs specialist of England has a mixed bag of performance in the tournament. Jordan started off badly and did not find any success in the first couple of matches. However, the seamer is is slowly gaining form and is performing well. He registered his best figures in the tournament in the previous match against Sri Lankan, taking 4/28. Until this stage, he has only 5 wickets in four games but he will surely pull up his socks and put in better performance in knockouts. Mitchell Santner: Mitchell Santner. The left-arm spinner has been the surprise weapon for the New Zealanders.Santner currently has 9 wickets in 4 games and is the highest wicket-taker among the teams which made it directly to the Super 10 Stage. The 24-year-old has enjoyed bowling in spin-friendly condition and will be looking forward to helping his team which is just two steps away from winning their first major ICC tournament. Ish Sodhi has thoroughly taken advantage of the Indian pitches and falls second behind Mitchell Santner as the highest wicket taker for New Zealand. His leg breaks and googlies have been tough to counter and his miserly bowling in the middle overs of the innings mounts pressure on the opposition. It can be easily said that the 23-year-old has also played very important role in New Zealand’s success so far in the mega event. David Willey: David Willey. He makes the ball swing dangerously into the right-handers and has a well-disguised slower one. His numbers are not very extraordinary but he has provided given them the important early breakthrough on a couple of occasions in this tournament. If the numbers are concerned, Willey has chipped in with six wickets in the four games he has played in the mega event. Heading into the semi-final, his effectiveness with the new ball will be vital for the Brits.
