England clinched their maiden T20I series over South Africa with a comfortable 19-run win in the series decider at Cardiff. After being put into bat, the home side scored 181/8 in their 20 overs despite maintaining an even better run-rate for the most part of their innings thanks to a brilliant 44-ball 78 by Dawid Malan, who was making his International debut. South Africa never looked advancing towards the target except when AB de Villiers’ was playing his little cameo of 35 runs.

1 – Dawid Malan became the first England player to score his maiden runs in International cricket with a six. He hit a six on the very second ball he faced.

1 – Dawid Malan is now the first England player to score a fifty on T20I debut. Previous highest score by an England player on T20I debut was 46 by Paul Collingwood vs Australia in 2005.

1 – This was England’s maiden T20I series win over South Africa. They have won a T20I series against all the 7 teams they played. England have played a T20I series vs 7 Test playing nations except for Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the new entries Afghan and Irish.

2 – Number of England players including Dawid Malan who have won the Man of the Match award on their T20I debut. The other player was Kevin Pietersen in 2005.

12 – Number of fours Dawid Malan has hit in this game; the joint 3rd most in a T20I inning by any player. Among England players, only Joe Root (13) has hit more fours in a T20I inning.

32 – Runs conceded by Dane Paterson for taking a 4-wicket haul in this game; the most runs conceded by a South African for taking 4 wickets in a T20I. In the previous 15 instances when South African players picked 4 or more wickets in a T20I, none of them conceded over 27 runs.

42 – Catches taken by AB de Villiers as a fielder in T20I format; the joint most by any player. Ross Taylor also has 42 catches as a fielder in this format.

59 – Number of sixes AB de Villiers has hit in the T20I format so far; the most by any South African player. He went past JP Duminy who has hit 58 T20I sixes.

78 – Dawid Malan’s 78 in this game is the joint fourth highest individual score by any player on their T20I debut. The highest is 98* by Ricky Ponting vs New Zealand in 2005.
