The Nottingham Test match moves into the final day after an intriguing fourth day where India picked up nine wickets despite a wicketless second session. The hosts were reduced to 62/4 before the Lunch interval but Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes didn’t let the game go into India’s hands without a fight. The pair added 169 runs for the fifth wicket, batting out 57.2 overs before Jasprit Bumrah’s spell with the second new ball put England on the verge of a defeat. Adil Rashid and Stuart Broad added fifty for the ninth wicket to take the game into the fifth day.

6Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul claiming seven catches apiece in this Test is only the sixth instance where two players have taken seven and more catches in a Test match. However, none of the previous five instances had both players from the same team.

7 – Rishabh Pant’s seven catches are the joint most for any player on Test debut. Among Indians, no other keeper has more than five dismissals on Test debut.

7 – KL Rahul is only the seventh player and the third Indian to take seven catches as a fielder Test cricket. He is also the first player to take seven catches as a fielder in a Test match on English soil.

Ajinkya Rahane took eight catches in the 2015 Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle and became the only fielder with eight catches in a Test.

106 – Jos Buttler is only the second English player to score a century in the fourth innings of a Test against India. Kevin Pietersen scored 101 in the drawn Test match at The Oval in 2007.

Buttler is also the second number six batsman to score a fourth innings century against India after AB de Villiers. The South African scored 103 in the Johannesburg Test in 2013 while chasing a 400+ target.

169 – Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler’s 169-run stand is the third highest partnership for the fifth wicket in the fourth innings of a Test match. AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis shared a 205-run stand in the 2013 Johannesburg Test also against India while Ben Congdon and Vic Pollard of New Zealand added 177 against the hosts in the 1973 Test at Trent Bridge.

169 – The 169-run partnership between Stokes and Buttler is England’s highest in the fourth innings for the fourth and lower wicket stands. This is also England’s highest fourth innings partnership since Ian Bell and Alastair Cook’s 170-run second wicket stand in the 2006 Perth Test.
