England vs India: Bharat Army chants Virat Kohli as MS Dhoni's man
Dhoni has played a crucial role in shaping Kohli's career during his early days in international cricket.
Team India is blessed to have an immense fan following all over the world. Whenever they travel overseas to play any form of the game, the Stadium turns blue and it feels like a home game for India. There wer similar scenes at Edgbaston on the second day of the ongoing first Test. During the game, Bharat Army, the official supporters of Indian Cricket overseas, were heard chanting for Virat Kohli who was bossing the game with a masterful knock.
The Indian captain was determined to bail his team out of the mess created by his fellow batsmen. He came in to bat at 54/2 and soon saw the situation going from bad to worse as they were reduced to 100/5. It would’ve been 7 down in the next 10 minutes if England had held on to their catches which would’ve also ended Kohli’s struggle in the middle.
Maybe he needed a stroke of luck to get going and Kohli made the most of the reprieve. He kept on leaving on the deliveries outside the off-stump and punished anything which was bowled on his pads. Slowly but surely he got rid of the conditions and started dominating the proceedings. He was left with no option as well with his team 8 down for 182.
Supporters remember MS Dhoni
Virat Kohli registered two important partnerships for the last couple of wickets. First, he took Ishant Sharma by his side and added 35 runs and then Umesh Yadav blocked everything in the 54-run stand. Meanwhile, he reached his 22nd Test ton and as he continued in the same vein, the Indian supporters found their voice who were disappointed due to other batsmen’s failure.
Bharat Army then began chanting Kohli’s name by taking a dig at Pakistan and also remembered MS Dhoni’s contribution in shaping the Indian captain’s career during his early days. “We’ve got Kohli, Virat Kohli, I just don’t think you understand, he’s MS Dhoni’s man, he smashes Pakistan, we’ve got Virat Kohli!” they chanted for a long time in order to encourage the Indian skipper who was absolutely toying with England bowlers.
He was eventually dismissed for 149 but had done enough to wipe off the deficit. India were bowled out for 274 runs only 13 runs behind England’s total.
