Virat Kohli: Neck and Back Injury
Virat Kohli is possibly the busiest cricketer in the world. Over the years Virat himself has talked about managing his workload, but when you are India captain rest is something you can ill afford. Especially when you are the fulcrum or the mainstay of the team’s batting the responsibility becomes that much bigger.
First, his neck created ripples in the Indian cricket fraternity as it forced him to pull out of his much-hyped county stint with Surrey, which was a preparatory tour ahead of his battles with the likes of James Anderson and Stuart Broad. Luckily for India, that injury got healed just in the nick of time and Virat arrived in England fully fit. And the results are there for all to see.
During the drubbing in the Lord’s Test, Virat suffered another injury scare with his back completely going off. Kohli was seen writhing with pain while batting in the second innings of the match, but such has been his commitment towards the game that he was able to regain full fitness ahead of the third Test.
He worked extra time with the support staff, including the physio to get himself fit for the crucial Test. The result – a crafty 97 in the first innings followed by yet another masterclass of 103 in the second innings, which virtually batted England out of the contest.
