England vs India: Ravi Ashwin doubtful for the fourth Test
He was in discomfort while bowling in the third Test as well.
Team India stormed back in the series to win the Trent Bridge Test and will be looking to level the series by trumping England in the fourth game as well. But they have been dealt with an injury to their ace spinner Ravi Ashwin who is struggling with a groin injury. Currently, he is in doubt for the game which will be played in Southampton and the final decision on him will only be taken after he starts practising.
According to the reports in the Times of India, Ashwin is undergoing the treatment for a groin injury and Ravindra Jadeja is the likeliest candidate to replace him. Even in the third Test, he wasn’t 100 per cent and looked in discomfort during the first innings. Thankfully, his bowling wasn’t required. He was also out of the ground for a lengthy period of time. The visitors will hope that Ashwin gets fit in time as he has bowled well so far in the series.
Will Jadeja make an impact?
As of now, Jadeja looks the most obvious candidate to replace Ashwin unless the team management feels that they need a proper batsman to replace him. Karun Nair and Hanuma Vihari are in the wings for a spot in the middle-order but it looks unlikely that the team goes in without a spinner. Umesh Yadav could be considered but for that to happen, the conditions should be entirely in favour of swing bowling.
Jadeja though looks a perfect replacement as he is a gun fielder and his bowling might surprise the home side. He hasn’t played even a single game in this series and if given an opportunity, will be keen to make a lasting impact. His left-arm spin bowling will be crucial and his batting down the order will also make a difference.
