England vs India: Ravi Ashwin misses the post-lunch session; Ravindra Jadeja occupies his place
He was seen sitting in the dressing room.
The ongoing Test match between England and India at Trent Bridge is poised nicely with the conditions changing o the second day. While the hosts picked the last 4 wickets in just 22 runs, their opponents have stormed back with a couple of wickets in the post-lunch session. Though the visitors have been jolted with a severe blow as Ravi Ashwin hasn’t taken the field in the second session and Ravindra Jadeja is in the middle as his substitute.
According to Sky Sports, Ashwin is struggling with a tightness in his hip muscle which is the reason he is not on the field. The physio is currently assessing his fitness and more update will come soon on him. His role in this game will be extremely crucial as the pitch is a tad slow and the ball has started turning albeit slowly. Team India would be wanting their premier spinner to feel comfortable as soon as possible and bowl at England batsmen.
The hosts have as many as 5 left-handers in their line-up and India will need Ashwin to be fit now. He bowled only a solitary over before lunch and had induced a false drive off Alastair Cook straight away. Though the openers have been dismissed now, he will be needed as the ball gets older with every over.
State of the match
The third Test match s nicely balanced right now as the visitors were bundled out for 329 on the second morning. James Anderson and Stuart Broad nipped out a couple of wickets each under overcast conditions and helped their side gain an early advantage. Their openers also batted well until lunch and won the session for the team.
The Indian bowlers, however, didn’t give up and came back strongly in the second session to pick both of them soon. England are currently 75/2 and still trail by 254 runs in the first innings.
