After some jaw-dropping display of cricket in the T20I and ODI series, India and England are currently locking horns in the first of the five-match Test series at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Prior to the red-ball fixtures, Virat Kohli’s men played a much-needed practice match against Essex at County Ground in Chelmsford. They won the T20I series but flunked in the 50-overs format.

India is the number one ranked team in Tests and a lot is expected from Virat Kohli and Co. Meanwhile, the Brits haven’t had the best of times in Test cricket. They lost the Ashes against Australia and then went on to lose against New Zealand. They also slumped in the first Test at the Lord’s Cricket Ground during Pakistan’s tour of the nation earlier this year.

It’s going to be a great test for Virat and his team

Nevertheless, they made a comeback to win at Headingley in Leeds. Recently, Shane Watson, the former Australian cricketer touted India to emerge triumphant in the series. The all-round cricketer also highlighted England’s poor run of form in the longest format of the sport in an interview with Sports Tak.

“England haven’t been playing their best Test cricket at the moment. Obviously, they have been dominating One Day cricket especially. It’s going to be a great test for Virat and his team. Look I would be surprised if India doesn’t win over there. They’ve definitely got the talent and the technique to be able to do really well in England. So, I would be surprised if India didn’t win,” he mentioned.

In the meantime, Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper, made some rather indifferent selections ahead of the opening match. Cheteshwar Pujara, who hasn’t had an overwhelming time in England thus far, including his County stint with Yorkshire, was left out. Kuldeep Yadav, who tormented the English batters in the limited-overs matches, also couldn’t place in the eleven with Ashwin as the lone spinner in the lineup.
