England vs India: Virender Sehwag feels Virat Kohli was right in sledging Stuart Broad
Earlier in the match, Broad had given an ugly sendoff to youngster Rishabh Pant.
Former India batsman Virender Sehwag recently came out in support of the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Sehwag chose to take Kohli’s side in the raging debate after he sledged English pacer Stuart Broad in the last innings of the third Test match between India and England at Trent Bridge and deemed his action to be right.
Having lost the first two Tests to the hosts, India bounced back in style in the third game as they won by a handsome margin of 203 runs. The Indian captain put up 200 runs in both innings combined while the pacers, especially Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Hardik Pandya, were exquisite with the ball, scalping English wickets at regular intervals on a sluggish Nottingham pitch.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant made his debut in the same match and received a not-so-warm welcome from English pacer Broad. Soon after Pant was dismissed, Broad gave him an ugly sendoff and was subsequently fined 15 per cent of his match fees for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
But Kohli is rarely the one to take it lying low and decided to retaliate in kind when he had the chance. As soon as Broad came out to bat, it was the Indian skipper’s turn to give him an earful, to which a smiling Broad replied, “It’s Test cricket and it’ll be aggressive!” Pat came Kohli’s reply, “That’s what you get for having a go at the youngster (points out to Pant)”.
As reported by India TV, Sehwag vouched for Kohli’s reaction and sided with him by saying, “Broad has played over 120 Test matches, this was Pant’s first, you’ve dismissed him, you’ve got the wicket, there is no need of sledging. Kohli was right in making him (Broad) understand later on.”
Broad was found to have breached Article 2.1.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
