England made a thunderous start to their three-match ODI series against Ireland, winning the opening match at the Rose Bowl in Southampton by six wickets. In the very first hour of the match, David Willey picked up four wickets and left the hosts at 28 for five. Curtis Campher and Andy McBrine got them back in the game, but Ireland couldn’t get the ideal score on a flat batting deck.

While defending a modest 173, the visitors chipped in with four wickets to start off. However, Eoin Morgan and Sam Billings’ calm heads got the Brits over the finishing line. The second ODI is set to be played on Saturday, August 1 at the very venue and Ireland will have to pull off something incredible to make a comeback.
