England vs Sri Lanka: Binura Fernando collides with Dawid Malan during the Southampton T20I
Malan became the Player of the Match for his 48-ball knock of 76.
Binura Fernando and Dawid Malan were involved in a nasty collision during the third T20I between England and Sri Lanka on Saturday, June 26 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. In the second over of the hosts’ innings, Jonny Bairstow tapped the ball and went for a quick single.
Malan, at the non-striker’s end, was proactive and responded to his partner’s call briskly. Fernando had to run across the pitch to collect the ball. While doing so, he collided with Malan, who was running at full-throttle towards the striker’s end.
The single was completed, but both stayed on the ground for a while. The players on the field went up to them to check on their well-being. However, the duo managed to evade something serious and were on their feet soon after.

Eoin Morgan delighted after England’s dominance
After the sheer dominance in the first two T20Is, England showed their class in the final game as well. Malan became the Player of the Match for his 48-ball knock of 76 with five fours and four sixes. The Three Lions won the game by 89 runs.
After the series whitewash, Eoin Morgan, the home team’s skipper, lauded his side for brilliant bowling. In the third game, the Brits’ bowlers shot their opponent out for 91.
“The biggest thing for me out of this series has been our bowling performance. The guys adapted to the conditions extremely well. To bowl the first 16 overs of all seam, today was outstanding. We can’t fault the bowlers for anything,” Morgan was quoted as saying.
“Looking towards the T20 World Cup, we’re looking to improve our Powerplay and Death-bowling. We have made some great strides and I am proud of the way the guys have performed,” he added.
Lankan skipper Kusal Perera, on the other hand, reckoned that their players couldn’t execute their plans. Perera, himself, couldn’t take off despite being a powerful striker of the cricket ball.
“We know it was always going to be tough but the batting has not been up to the mark. We are not used to the pace and bounce and the execution was not great and we need to have good backup plans facing a team like this. We have to take responsibility and play to our strengths and that’s the best way to approach these kinds of situations,” Perera stated.
