All the statistical highlights from the final day of Manchester Test where England sealed the series.
England needed 31.1 overs on the final day of the Old Trafford Test to clinch the Wisden Trophy for the one last time. The rain did make its appearance on Tuesday after washing out whole play on 4th day but couldn’t stop England from taking the series away. The day began with Stuart Broad taking his milestone 500th wicket in Test cricket and also picked up the last wicket of the match. In between, Chris Woakes claimed five of the six wickets to fall as the West Indies were bundled out for only 129 in just 37.1 overs.

England wins the series coming from behind:
4 – Only the 4th time West Indies lost a series after taking a 1-0 lead in Test cricket. The 5-match series in Australia, 1968-69 (1-3), the 5-match series in England, 2000 (1-3) and the 3-match series in South Africa, 2007-08 (1-2) were the other such Test series defeats for them.
269 – England’s 269-run victory in this game is their biggest Test win against West Indies in terms of runs. Their previous biggest win came during the 1960 Port of Spain Test by 256 runs. West Indies has five wins against England in terms of runs which are bigger than the margin achieved by England in this Test.
An embarrassing record for Holder:
7 – Jason Holder has become the first captain in Test history to end up on the losing side as many as seven times after electing to bowl first at the toss. Brian Lara, Angelo Mathews, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan are next on the list with six Test defeats after electing to bowl first.
Broad’s grand entry to the ‘500 Test wickets club’:
7 – Stuart Broad became the 7th player to complete 500 wickets in Test cricket. All the seven players bagged eight or more wickets including a 5-wicket haul in the match they reached this milestone.
Broad and Shane Warne picked up ten wickets apiece while Courtney Walsh took eight wickets during the Test where they picked the 500th wicket. The remaining four players took nine wickets each in their milestone Tests.

Broad replicates Botham:
1980 – The last England pace bowler before Stuart Broad to achieve the double of a fifty-plus score and 10+ wickets in the same Test match was Sir Ian Botham during the 1980 Mumbai Test against India.
Broad is now the 7th player to achieve this double in a Test match for England. Between Botham and Broad, only one England player recorded this double – Moeen Ali against South Africa in 2017 Lord’s Test.
2008 – The last pacer to record a fifty-plus score and bag 10+ wickets in the same Test before Broad was Dale Steyn in the 2008 MCG Test against Australia. Steyn scored 76 runs in the first innings and claimed 10 wickets in the match.
A century-less Test series for West Indies:
2 – Only the 2nd time West Indies failed to record an individual century in a Test series against England. The other such instance was the 3-match Test series in 1928 held in England, where the highest individual score for the West Indies was only 53.
2005 – This was only the 5th Test series of three or more matches in which West Indies failed to register an individual hundred. The last of the previous four such series was the 3-match away series against New Zealand in 2006.
A rare match award for Broad:
2 – Only the 2nd time Stuart Broad was adjudged as the player of the series in Test cricket. The other such instance was during the 4-match home Test series against India in 2011 where he bagged 25 wickets and also scored 184 runs at an average over 60.
2016 – Stuart Broad was also the player of the match which was only his 10th such award in Test cricket and the first in more than four years. Broad’s last player of the match award in this format came during the 2016 Johannesburg Test against South Africa where he took eight wickets including 6/17 in the second innings.
