Eoin Morgan confirms Jofra Archer's ODI debut for England against Ireland
Malan and Foakes will also receive their first ODI caps.
England will start their World Cup preparations with an ODI against Ireland on Friday in Dublin. The game will be followed by a one-off T20I against Pakistan and then the Brits will be playing five One-Day Internationals against the Men in Green starting from May 8. All the eyes will be on Jofra Archer on Friday as he is set to make his ODI debut for England.
Eoin Morgan confirmed the news in the pre-match press conference on Thursday and with this, the World Cup test also starts for the Caribbean born cricketer. He has just returned from India after playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Archer is an exciting talent and his inclusion will definitely solve the bowling issues for England ahead of the World Cup.
ECB changed the rules earlier this year and thus Jofra Archer became eligible to play for England just before the World Cup. A few of the cricketers have also criticised the decision to fast-track the pacer and it remains to be seen if he makes it to the mega event later this month.
Dawid Malan also to make his ODI debut
According to Telegraph, Eoin Morgan also confirmed that Dawid Malan will make his ODI debut on Friday. He has played the T20Is and Tests for his country. He was drafted into the team after Alex Hales’ name was withdrawn by ECB from all England squads after the cricketer failed the drug test and was banned for 21 days.
Interestingly, there will be a total of three debutants for England against Ireland with Ben Foakes also set to make his debut. He is also the replacement player in the squad for Sam Billings who dislocated his shoulder while fielding in the domestic One-Day Cup after returning from India. Foakes was one of the best batsmen for England during the Sri Lanka Tests last year in the sub-continent.
