Jofra Archer is the new sensation currently who has scaled greater heights in a very short time while playing in the County circuit for Sussex. He was born in Barbados but has left the island nation following the lack of opportunities in his career and is now serving the seven-year qualification period in order to be eligible to play for England. However, the skipper Eoin Morgan has opened up on his chances of playing for them next year in the ICC Cricket World Cup.
If the reports are to be believed, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is fast-tracking Archer’s qualification to make him eligible next year. They are contemplating to revert back to the four-year qualification period which would mean that the fast bowler can straight away don the jersey of England and make a serious case for his inclusion in the team. It will also bolster the bowling attack of the hosts of the mega even who are also the favourites to win the World Cup.
Will Morgan include Archer?
England skipper Eoin Morgan believes it is a little too late now for Jofra Archer to make it to the settled ODI side. The team has been doing well under his leadership since last three years and no wonder this is a great chance for them to lift the title for the first time. Morgan indirectly hinted that it is tough for the Barbados-born cricketer to break into the side where the competition for the places is fierce.
“Providing everyone is fit, I think so. He’s a guy that if he was English qualified we’d have looked at him after maybe the Bangladesh [Premier] league (in November). He would have gone on some Lions and from there seen what happened,” he as quoted as saying by the Telegraph.
England will now be playing against their arch-rivals Australia in the five-match ODI series which will commence on June 13.
