After performing exceptionally with the bat in the earlier games this summer, Eoin Morgan again stole the show during the 2nd T20I against Australia. This time his lightning-fast fielding was under the spotlight. The English skipper pulled off a stunning run-out to send Steve Smith back to the pavilion as England continued their winning streak and took an inevitable 2-0 lead in the three-match series against the Aussies.

After hitting Tom Curran for a four and a six in the same over, Smith was trying a steal a single on the last delivery of the fifth over. He pushed the ball to mid-on and tried to run in the quest to retain the strike in the next over. However, Eoin Morgan was as alert as he could be and pulled an amazing run-out.

He had only one stump to aim at the non-striker’s end, but managed to hit the target with an accurate throw, showcasing tremendous speed and accuracy as a fielder. He proved that even when he is not batting, one cannot keep him out of the game.

A comfortable victory for the hosts

England continued their dominance in the T20I series as the visitors looked helpless throughout the 2nd T20I. Australia were put under pressure from the very first over as Jofra Archer removed their most consistent batsman, David Warner for a duck. Though, captain Aaron Finch (40) played the role of an anchor and took the team to a decent total of 158 with the help of the newly designated finisher, Marcus Stoinis (35) and Glenn Maxwell (26).

The Brits looked fairly comfortable in the middle while chasing the below-par total. Jos Buttler‘s heroics with the ever-consistent Dawid Malan (42) were too good for their Ashes rivals to get better off. The Australians tried their best to come back into the game and removed Dawid Malan, Tom Banton and Eoin Morgan in quick succession. However, the Three Lions were taken home by the player of the match, Buttler (77 off 54)  and Moeen Ali quite comfortably.

The next game is at the same venue, The Ageas Bowl, Southampton. The visitors will look to clinch a consolation win and the hosts will be looking to snatch the no. 1 T20I rankings from Australia.
