Essex's Mohammad Amir picks a 5-wicket haul against Yorkshire in County Championship
Amir recorded figures of 11.2-4-18-5 in the inning; his 10th five-wicket haul in the first-class cricket.
Mohammad Amir carried his NatWest T20 Blast success into County Championship for the Essex as he picked up a 5-wicket haul to bowl out Yorkshire for just 113 on the 1st day of the Division one match at Scarborough. Amir recorded figures of 11.2-4-18-5 in the inning; his 10th five-wicket haul in the first-class cricket after his side Essex, the visiting team decided to bowl first leaving the toss uncontested.
Mohammad Amir struck in his 2nd over to send back Alex Lees for a duck. He bagged one more scalp in his next over as he cleaned up Tom Kohler-Cadmore for just 4 runs. Amir’s first spell figures read 6-2-9-2 and returned for the 2nd burst after his opening partner with the ball Jamie Porter picked up 3 wickets and a couple for Ravi Bopara to reduce the home side to 63/7.
Amir struck twice in two balls in his first over of the 2nd spell dismissing Jack Brooks and Ben Coad as the Yorkshire sink further to 74/9. However, Amir couldn’t make in 3 in 3 balls and missed out on a hat-trick. Had Amir managed to take a hat-trick, he could have been 7th Pakistan player to bag a hat-trick in the County Championship after Intikhab Alam, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq (2) and Danish Kaneria.
Adam Lyth was the lone warrior in the Yorkshire innings – His score of 68 helped his side to cross 100-run mark by adding 39 runs for the 10th wicket in 14 overs before getting out as the last man of his team and Amir’s 5th scalp. In reply to Yorkshire, Essex scored 188/8 before the close of play on the day 1. Captain Ryan Ten Doeschate remained unbeaten on 61 along with Mohammad Amir, who scored 11 runs.
This is Amir’s 2nd outing in the County Championship as he featured in the day/night fixture ahead of the NatWest T20 Blast. Essex faced Middlesex at Chelmsford in that game where Amir picked a wicket in his very first over but failed to add one more in the game even after bowling more than 30 overs.
