India recently have been able to dominate most of their international series’. Under the leadership of the enigmatic Virat Kohli, India won the Test and ODI series in Australia. Now, they have also won the five-match ODI series against New Zealand. Last time around in 2012-13, India couldn’t win a single match against the Black Caps and the recent victory would give them a whole lot of confidence.

The visitors beat them in the first three ODIs in Napier and Mount Maunganui to take a 3-0 lead in the series. The fourth ODI was played at the Seddon Park in Hamilton and the Black Caps won the match by eight wickets. India were bowled out for a paltry 92 in 30.5 overs. Such was their dismal batting condition that Yuzvendra Chahal was their top run-scorer with 18 from 37 deliveries.

India didn’t have the likes of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni for the match. After the victory, Rohit Sharma, the Indian stand-in captain, was all-praises for Kane Williamson and Co. The 31-year-old from Maharashtra also admitted that it was one of the visitors’ worst performances in a long time.

In the meantime, Dave Richardson, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Cricket Council (ICC) made a rather controversial remark following the Kiwis’ thumping victory against the Men in Blue. “Every dog has its day” Richardson was quoted as saying in Times Now.

India slump alarmingly

As far as the match is concerned, the hosts were clinical throughout and didn’t allow their opponents to get a foothold into the match. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, New Zealand dominated India and shot them out for a low total. The visitors lost only a couple of wickets- Martin Guptill and Williamson- before gunning the target down without dropping much sweat and with 212 balls to spare.
