Fabian Allen is a complete package like Ravindra Jadeja feels Phil Simmons
Allen was impressive in the CPL where he played for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
As India take on the Windies in the third ODI in Pune, the visitors have decided to give Fabian Allen his first opportunity to play international cricket. The spin-bowling all-rounder came in place of senior leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo. Allen has been touted as a great batting prospect for the Windies as well following his performances in domestic cricket and in the Caribbean Premier League.
Fabian Allen made his first-class debut for Jamaica in the 2016–17 Regional Four Day Competition. Prior to his first-class debut, he was part of the Windies squad that played in the Under-19 World Cup in 2014. In the last few games of the 2016-17 Regional Four Day Competition, he impressed one and all by scoring three consecutive half centuries. He was picked up in the 13th round of the 2017 CPL Draft by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and soon went on to make his T20 debut that year.
Allen’s rise to international cricket
In November 2017, while representing Jamaica, he scored his maiden century in first-class cricket, a brilliant unbeaten 169 that came against Trinidad and Tobago. He also got an opportunity to play in the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada after being drafted into the Cricket West Indies B Team. Former Windies all-rounder Phil Simmons spoke very highly of the 23-year old, who was handed his maiden ODI cap earlier on Saturday in Pune.
Speaking to ESPNcricinfo on Allen, he said, “First thing you can expect is dynamism on the field. He is exceptional in the field. His bowling has come on a lot. He played with me in the CPL at St Kitts and his bowling has come along a lot. But he is that extra batsman down there because he can smash the ball to all parts. He has shown that in a couple of 4-day games that he has played at home and in T20s.”
“He’s a total package, a little bit like Jadeja if you want to compare him to someone. So I think that’s interesting because he’s a little more attacking as a bowler than Bishoo would be,” he concluded.
After 2 ODIs done and dusted, India lead the 5-match series 1-0 as the Windies enforced a tie in Vishakhapatnam. The 4th ODI will be hosted by the Cricket Club of India at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, with the series concluding at Thiruvananthapuram.
