Carlos Brathwaite is a promising young all-rounder from West Indies who made his ODI and T20I debut in 2011 but he was soon dropped. We saw him appear for West Indies again during the recent Test series against Australia in which he has made his Test debut and impressed everyone with his batting. It was inevitable that he will be picked by an IPL team but much to the delight, he was picked up by Delhi Daredevils with a whopping contract worth INR 4.2 crore. KKR and DD both looked keen to add him to their team but eventually DD picked him. Here are some interesting facts about Carlos Brathwaite.

1. Birth:

Carlos Brathwaite was born on 18 July 1988 in Barbados.

2. Idols:

Rahul Dravid and Kevin Pietersen are his idols as he once said, “When I was growing up I used to bat at no.3 and was very defensive. I used to bat the majority of balls and Rahul Dravid was my idol.A little shift now, in the years since I’ve bulked up and changed my game a bit I’ve looked to Kevin Pietersen, the way he puts bowlers under pressure, the way he stamps his authority on the game. If I can have half the career he had I’ll be happy with that.”

3. First-class debut:

He made his first-class debut against Trinidad and Tobago at St Augustine on February 11, 2011, and in the match, he picked up 7 wickets giving away 90 runs while playing for Combined Campuses and Colleges. He took 26 wickets from his first 8 first-class matches. Carlos has played 37 FC matches thus far and scored 1444 runs along with 87 wickets.

4. ODI debut:

He made his ODI debut for West Indies against Bangladesh at Chittagong on October 18, 2011. Since then he has just played 7 ODI matches for West Indies but from now he is someone to watch out for.

5. T20I debut:

He made his T20I debut for West Indies against Bangladesh at Dhaka on October 11, 2011. He has played only 2 T20I matches for West Indies in his career.

6. Test debut:

He made his Test debut for West Indies against Australia at Melbourne on December 26, 2015, and impressed one and all with 59 runs and played well throughout the series and that series against Australia probably gave him fame. He has played 2 Test matches for West Indies and scored 130 runs at an average of 43.33.

7. Famous classmate:

Rihanna the popular Barbadian singer and songwriter was once his classmate. Carlos Brathwaite studied from the Combermere School in Barbados. He had once said “My claim to fame before my Test debut was having shared a classroom with Rihanna in first and fourth form. Now I can say that probably me sharing a classroom with her and me playing a Test match at the MCG are probably on par.”

8. Relationship with Kraigg Brathwaite:

He has no real relationship with West Indies teammate Kraigg Brathwaite. Interestingly, both went to the same school and grew up together and now play for West Indies together.

9. Playing style:

He is an all-rounder. He is a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast medium bowler.

10. Major Teams:

He has played cricket for West Indies, Antigua Hawksbills, Barbados, Barbados Tridents, Barbados Under-19s, Combined Campuses and Colleges, Sagicore High Performance Centre, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and West Indies A. Now, he will play for Delhi Daredevils in this year’s IPL.

11. IPL team:

During the IPL 2016 player auction, he attracted a big price of INR 4.2 crore from DD, 14 times his base price of Rs 30 lakhs.
