13 Facts about Corey Anderson - The Hard-Hitting All-Rounder

The striking youngster from New Zealand has been a nightmare for bowlers since his debut in international cricket. No matter what the format is, Corey James Anderson loves to thrash the bowlers to boundaries. Adding to his charismatic batting, he can bowl terrifically as well. In him, the Kiwis have found a characteristic all-rounder they were looking around for a long time.

1. Birth:

Corey Anderson was born on 13^th December 1990 at Christchurch. Doctors diagnosed the deficiency of hearing capability (5%) in his left ear at birth.

2. Gillette Cup 2006:

He was jointly named ‘Player of the tournament’, along with his current New Zealand teammate Tim Southee. He played for Christchurch Boys High School and gained the credit for leading the team to three consecutive Gillette cups (2005, 2006, 2007).

3. First-class debut in 2007:

Anderson played 39 matches at first-class level for New Zealand U19 team, scoring 1976 runs with an average of 35.28. He also notched 35 wickets during the span with a five-wicket haul adorning the stat.

4. Call to New Zealand cricket:

Corey Anderson became the youngest New Zealand player to get a contract with New Zealand Cricket Council.

5. T20I debut:

Corey Anderson made his T20I debut in 2012, against South Africa and had a miserable start to T20 life. He could score only five runs in his first international innings. He bowled an over as well, conceding 11 runs without a wicket.

6. Below average T20I stats:

Corey Anderson has not quite kicked off his T20I career for New Zealand. He has scored only 315 runs in 25 matches. He has only 14 wickets to his credit.

He has scored 1047 runs in his ODI career and took 55 wickets with a five-wicket haul. He has also scored two centuries.

On 1 January 2014, Anderson thrashed Windies bowling to score a 36-ball-hundred overpassing Afridi’s record, to become the fastest centurion in ODIs. However, in 2015, AB de Villiers broke the record in 31 balls against West Indies.

11. Test debut and stats:

Again, miserable start to a new format. He debuted against Bangladesh in 2013 and could only score 1 and 8 in his first two innings. However, he scored a century in his second Test. Anderson has scored 683 runs in Test cricket with an average over 30. He has done quite well with the ball as well, notching 16 wickets.

12. IPL:

In 2014, Mumbai Indians bought him for a whooping price of 45 million rupees. His notable contribution coming against Rajasthan Royals when he scored an unbeaten 95 in just 44 balls, which helped Mumbai Indians to progress to the semi-finals. He has scored 379 runs in his IPL career

13. World Cup 2015:

The World Cup was a decent outing for Corey Anderson. He took 14 wickets for his team and contributed 231 runs with the bat and proved to be an important element in the squad that made it to the final of the tournament for the first time.
