Faheem Ashraf has been impressive for Pakistan in his relatively short International career. He was brilliant in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League, where he finished as the joint highest wicket-taker. This string of brilliant performances has been rewarded as Faheem Ashraf got his first Test call-up.

Faheem one of 4 uncapped players to get a call-up

The PCB recently announced a 16-man squad to face Ireland and England. They picked 4 uncapped players in the squad including Faheem Ashraf.  The 24-year-old bowler seemed to be very happy about his inclusion and revealed that it was his dream to play Test cricket.

“It’s the dream of every cricketer to play for your country at the Test level, which is the ultimate challenge. I am extremely happy to be selected for the Test squad,” the Express Tribune quoted Faheem Ashraf

The dream is to cement the spot

The right-arm fast bowler has already represented his country in 8 ODIs and 10 T20Is, but his dream is to cement his spot in all formats of the game. Ashraf claimed that he is training hard to increase his fitness levels as he recognizes that it is necessary for him to succeed in all three formats.

“The goal is to cement my place permanently in all three formats of the game through consistent performances. I believe, to survive in all three formats, you need physical fitness and consistent form and I know that is the secret to success, which is why I am training hard,” he said.

While it is a maiden Test call-up, Faheem Ashraf is confident that he can perform well in the Test format as he has experience of playing in the 4-day format.

“I’ve played four-day cricket before, so I don’t think it will be hard to adjust to the longest format of the game,” Ashraf said.

Ireland would play their maiden Test match vs Pakistan on 11th May, Pakistan would then play England in a two-match Test series.
