Faheem Ashraf set to strike T20 deal with Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire had a horrendous outing in the erstwhile edition of the T20 Blast. They were placed in the North Group and finished as the cellar dwellers with five points, winning only a couple of matches out of 14. They also had the lowest Net Run Rate (NRR) of -1.398, something which showed that they strained to find their feet and were comprehensively beaten.

In the meantime, it has been learned, Pakistani all-round cricketer Faheem Ashraf has agreed to ink a deal with the club for the next edition of the T20 Blast. Moreover, the Kasur-born cricketer also expects to be available for the entire T20 season as Pakistan don’t have any international commitments during that time for the time being as per reports in ESPNcricinfo.

Northamptonshire open their campaign against Durham

The tournament is scheduled to get underway within a week after the conclusion of the most-awaited 2019 World Cup in England and Wales, starting May 30. The opening day of the T20 extravaganza on Thursday, July 18, will be a witness to as many as three matches with the semi-finals and final to be played on Saturday, September 21 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Northamptonshire would start their campaign on the second day- Friday, July 19 with their encounter against Durham at Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. After a lacklustre season last time around, Northamptonshire would want to turn their fortunes around in the T20 event. The 24-year-old Faheem’s inclusion is expected to come as a massive boost for the franchise.

Faheem has tasted quite a bit of success in the T20 format. In last year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL), he was the joint-highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets from 12 matches, representing Islamabad United, the champions last season. He can also hit the long ball and it’s evident from his impressive T20 strike-rate of 129.16. In 54 T20s, Ashraf has notched 310 runs to go with 49 wickets.
