Faheem Ashraf sidelined due to hamstring injury
He is expected to get fit for the New Zealand tour.
Pakistan fast bowler Faheem Ashraf has joined the list of the injured fast bowlers as he sustained a hamstring injury in the ongoing National T20 Cup. The youngster also missed the semifinal of the tournament for his team Faisalabad which they lost by 10 runs. However, he will undergo rehab in the National Cricket Academy now in Lahore and hope to get fit in time for the tour of New Zealand in January next year.
The 23-year-old broke through in the international arena during the triumphant campaign of Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year against Sri Lanka. But he hogged the limelight by taking a hat-trick during the T20 International series against Sri Lanka. His all-round capabilities are being praised by many and is being looked as the one to watch out for in the near future. Though he needs to keep injuries away for him which has plagues the bowlers of Pakistan in the recent past.
Faheem to travel New Zealand?
Faheem Ashraf sustained a hamstring injury while training ahead of the semifinal against Lahore Whites in National T20 Cup. ““Faheem suffered a hamstring injury in the last match, so he has been summoned to the NCA for rehab,” said a spokesperson of Faisalabad team according to Wisden India. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will now be hoping for him to get back and hit the straps for New Zealand tour where the Men in Green will play 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
Ashraf has so far played three One-Day Internationals in which he has scalped only a couple of wickets. He will need time and more opportunities to cement his place in the side filled with talented bowlers. But in T20Is, he looks set to return for the tour following his sensational hat-trick and has so far picked 6 wickets in four matches conceding only 4.8 runs per over. The bowler himself would want to impress everyone away from home but for that, he needs to recover soon.
