The two Men in Green, Pakistan and South Africa took on each other in the 30th Match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The game was held at the exemplary Lord’s Cricket Ground, which witnessed a clash of the two teams, wherein, the Pakistan Cricket Team eventually got better off the opponents and won the game by 49 runs. While, South Africa, on the other hand, were knocked out of the World Cup and their dream of getting their hands on the coveted silverware was diminished for yet another time.
Pakistan began the game by winning the toss and electing to bat first. The team got off to a fiery start as the two openers Fakhar Zaman & Imam-ul-Haq amassed 58 runs in the first 10 overs. Howbeit, what followed this good start was the wickets of the two openers at regular intervals. It started to work in South Africa’s favour after these two wickets, however, Haris Sohail’s onslaught of 89 runs in just 59 balls and a handy contribution from Babur Azam (69) eventually helped Pakistan post a decent target of 309 runs.
Chasing 309, South Africa didn’t have a good start as out-of-form Hashim Amla was dismissed in the second over. Once he was dismissed, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock tried to build a partnership and make a comeback. Nonetheless, the Proteas’ inability to play leg spin resulted in two consecutive wickets of De Kock & Aiden Markram respectively.
Soon Faf was also sent back to the pavilion by Mohammad Amir while broke the backbone of their chase. Although, Van der Dussen, alongside, David Miller, tried to make a comeback but ultimately, it was disappointing for the South African fans as their team failed to chase down the score and was knocked out of an ICC tournament on yet another occasion.
As South Africa’s dream of winning the World Cup was shattered once again, the former Protea cricketer AB de Villiers posted the lyrics of an Indian song through his Fake Facebook status. The status received lots of responses, with most of them coming as trolls for the performance of the South African team. The iconic, sacred-fair of the Indian subcontinent, “Kumbh Mela” also took a sly dig at this incident.
