He might have played for India last time more than five years ago but former dashing opener Virender Sehwag is no less popular among fans still today. One got a glimpse of his followers’ love for him during a match in Karnataka Chalanachitra Cup (KCC) when a fan breached the security and ran into the ground to touch the ex-cricketer’s feet.

The 39-year-old former cricketer recently played a friendly match in the KCC at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium along with some other popular names like Adam Gilchrist and the fans got to see the vintage Sehwag with his trademark strikes that enthralled the cricketing world during his playing days. Playing for Kadamba Lions led by popular South Indian actor Kichcha Sudeep, Sehwag smashed a few sixes and he later shared a video of the same on his Twitter account. What added to the entertainment is his sporting a pair of stylish black glasses.

Fan runs to Sehwag to show his adulation

When he came out to the field, a fan broke the barrier and rushed to the man to touch his feet. Sehwag, wearing his team’s yellow-and-black jersey, acknowledged the fan’s love for him and the moment was filmed as a video by one of the fans from the gallery and posted later on Twitter. It did not take much time for the video to go viral.

Sehwag has been equally popular in his post-retirement days and one of the reasons being his active presence on Twitter which he uses with a tinge of humour. He didn’t forget to caption his dashing batting at KCC with the following: “Usool tab bhi wahi tha, ab bhi wahi hai. Shubh kaam mein der kaisi. Entertainment Entertainment Entertainment. Was fun batting today.”

Sehwag, India’s only triple centurion in Tests on two occasions, has played 104 Tests, 251 ODIs and 19 T20Is in a career spanning 14 years. He scored over 17,253 runs and slammed 38 centuries towards that cause. He was one of the key members of India’s World Cup-winning squad in 2011 and also has a double-century in ODIs to his credit. He made his last appearance for India in 2013 and quit international cricket in 2015.

The KCC was a two-day affair which witnessed former star players like Tillakaratne Dilshan besides Sehwag and Wodeyar Chargers defeated Rashtrakuta Panthers to clinch the second season title.
