Fan proposes his girlfriend at Lord's after James Anderson scalps his 500th
James Anderson became the sixth bowler to reach the 500 Test wickets landmark.
Life is all about seizing the right opportunity, and nothing gets better than proposing your girlfriend on a fine evening at Lord’s, and that too, on a historical day. After going wicketless in the second innings at Headingley, Anderson was left stranded on 499 wickets, as Ben Stokes scalped six to record his career best figures of 6/22. But the English pacer finally scalped his 500th victim in the face of Kraigg Braithwaite during the second innings of the 3rd Test match.
He became the sixth bowler to achieve this feat and only the third pacer after Australia’s Glenn McGrath (563) and West Indies’ Courtney Walsh (519). Anderson is also the first Englishman to reach the milestone and is currently the leading wicket-taker for the Three Lions.
Charles, a fan watching the game from the stands, grabbed the opportunity with both hands and proposed his girlfriend Sophie, in front of the jam packed crowd. The spectators were seen cheering for the couple, and it was nothing less than a fairytale after the Lord’s officials offered them a bottle of Champagne to celebrate the moment.
Eventful day
The second day of the 3rd Test match was clearly an eventful day, after the Windies fought back to shoot out England for 193, after the visitors were ‘stoked’ for 123. The visitors ended the day on 193/3. Shai Hope remained unbeaten on 35 and Roston Chase is batting on 3. Jimmy was highly impressive after scalping two wickets and ending the historic day with 2/17. His bowling partner Stuart Broad picked one wicket.
“It feels good,” said Anderson. “It’s a bit surreal. I can’t believe I have this many wickets or I have played this much cricket. I’m a bit relieved to have it out of the way. “Ideally, I’d have done it yesterday but, from the team’s point of view, we bowled really well.” He added.
