Fans slam BCCI for ‘thumping win’ tweet after India beat Afghanistan
BCCI deleted the tweet later.
Afghanistan stretched India until the last over at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. It was a nerve-wracking thriller on Saturday which the Men in Blue escaped by the skin of their teeth. When the match began, it was all about the mammoth score India will post. But as it turned out, the pitch suited Afghanistan spinners and the trio of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi tied the batsmen down sensationally. After restricting India to 224, Afghanistan got ever so close in the chase only for India to keep their nerves in the end.
With things going down the wire, Nabi kept his cool to take the game deep and backed himself to finish the game in the last over. Moreover, Jasprit Bumrah’s impeccable death bowling didn’t allow Afghan batsmen to score runs as well. But for the veteran, Mohammed Shami was too good who nailed his yorkers and picked up a hat-trick to seal an 11-run win for his team.
However, after the victory, the BCCI’s official Twitter handle came up with a gloating tweet stating that India thumped Afghanistan by 11 runs which undermined the latter’s exceptional efforts. “And we march on – #TeamIndia thump Afghanistan by 11 runs”.
BCCI deletes the tweet
The Indian fans were not at all pleased by one bit with the ‘thumping win’ tweet and slammed BCCI for not crediting Afghanistan. It was a fine effort from them as they literally scared the Men in Blue for the second time in as many matches now. Last time India met Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, the match ended in a tie and this time, the newest Asian team came extremely close to beating the full-strength Indian team.
With the fans lashing out, the BCCI deleted the tweet soon and changed it with a text which read, “As #TeamIndia beat Afghanistan by 11 runs we march and move on to Manchester next #INDvAFG #CWC19.” But the damage was already done with the fans trolling the Indian board for their earlier goof-up.
