On Sunday (April 2), the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will take on the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the fifth game of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Royal Challengers finished in the fourth position last season after winning eight out of 14 games and qualified for the playoffs for the third time in a row. They made some smart moves at the mini-auction, which occurred in December last year. They shelled out INR 1.9 crores for English pacer Reece Topley and INR 3.2 crores for Will Jacks. Jacks has been ruled out of the tournament due to a thigh injury and has been replaced by Michael Bracewell. Last season, RCB faced the Mumbai Indians once and won that game by seven wickets.

Mumbai Indians, the most successful franchise in the IPL's history, finished in last place during the 2021 season for the first time. They won just four out of 14 games in the season, and it was also the first time MI managed to win less than five matches. They traded Jason Behrendorff from the RCB before the mini-auction last year. In the auction, they got hold of Cameron Green for INR 17.5 crores, and he became the second-expensive player in the auction's history. They picked a total of seven more players in the auction. This year, MI will be without Jasprit Bumrah, who has been ruled out of the contest and has been replaced by Sandeep Warrier.

Average Score
Player Picks
Faf du Plessis RCB | BAT
The former Proteas skipper was the second-highest run-scorer in the recently concluded SA20, as he made 369 runs in ten innings at an average of 41 and a strike rate of 147.6. He was the leading run-scorer for RCB as well last season.
Michael Bracewell RCB | BAT
He has replaced Will Jacks in the squad and scored 105 not out in the intra-squad game off 55 deliveries. He made 140 runs off 78 deliveries in the first ODI against India in January this year.
Virat Kohli RCB | BAT
The former Indian captain has been in the best of his form in the recent few months. In his last outing against Australia, Kohli scored a half-century. He will likely open the innings for RCB this season and might play a special role.
Suryakumar Yadav MI | BAT
His recent form in the ODI series against Australia doesn't do justice to what he has achieved in the shortest format of the game so far. The number one ranked T20I batter has made 1770 runs in T20s since 2022 while playing for India and Mumbai Indians. Last season, Surya scored 303 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 145.67.
Rohit Sharma MI | BAT
Mumbai Indians will need Rohit Sharma to fire so as to have a chance this season. The skipper has managed to score over 500 runs only once in his entire IPL career. If he manages to produce a similar knock this year, MI will have a chance to script one of the greatest comebacks in the league's history.
Cameron Green MI | ALL
He has been at the top of his form in the recent few games and has made runs in every format he has played. In the Test series against India, Green scored his maiden century. If he performs similarly and MI gives him the opening slot, the team will have one of the best top-order this season.
Shahbaz Ahmed RCB | ALL
The 28-year-old all-rounder was one of the best performers for RCB last season. He scored 219 runs in 11 innings while batting in the lower middle order at a strike rate of 120.99. Shahbaz will be a key player for RCB this season in his regular position.
Reece Topley RCB | BOWL
The left-arm pacer was the fourth-highest wicket-taker for England last year in T20Is. Topley picked 17 wickets in 16 games at an average of 28, an economy of 7.8, and a strike rate of 21.5. He will be one of the players to watch out for from RCB's camp this season.
Tilak Varma MI | BAT
The 20-year-old batter made his IPL debut last season and finished as the second-highest run-scorer for the team. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored 297 runs in six innings for Hyderabad at an average of 49.5 and a strike rate of 136.23.
