The Asia Cup has witnessed some remarkable performances since its inception in 1984. Many batters have led the charge for their team by obtaining the fastest century so far in the continental championship.
Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi holds the record for the fastest century in the Asia Cup against Bangladesh in Dambulla in 2010. He reached the three-figure mark with the help of 53 balls. He scored 124 runs off 60 balls, including 17 fours and four sixes, as Pakistan reached a massive 385 for 7. Notably, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 139 runs in the match.
The 2008 Asia Cup witnessed two fastest hundreds. Sri Lanka great Sanath Jayasuriya got a century off 55 balls against Bangladesh in Karachi. Sri Lanka won the match by 158 runs thanks to the opening batter's 130 off 88 deliveries in the said match. Meanwhile, Suresh Raina got a century off 66 balls in India's match against Hong Kong at Karachi in the same edition. Notably, India defeated Hong Kong by a margin of 256 runs.
Shahid Afridi scored another quick century off 68 balls against Sri Lanka in the 2010 Asia Cup in Dambulla. Despite Pakistan suffering a 16-run defeat, Afridi was named Player of the Match for his magnificent innings of 109 off 76 balls. Sanath Jayasuriya's 72-ball century against Bangladesh in Colombo in 1997 was the fastest century in the continental championship back then. In the match, which Sri Lanka won by 103 runs, he made 108 runs off 83 balls.
Furthermore, there is only one century in the T20 format of the Asia Cup, which was struck by former India captain Virat Kohli against Afghanistan in the 2022 edition in the UAE. The 34-year-old batter reached the century with the help of just 53 balls. Notably, he smashed an unbeaten 122 off 61 balls as India defeated Afghanistan by 101 runs.
